Special Issue from Bio-IT World Conference
This month we bring you articles and views from the recent (April 9-11) Bio-IT World Conference and Exhibition in Boston MA, USA. IEEE Life Sciences was present at the Conference in several capacities. In addition to a pictorial view of the Conference, we present three original articles, based on presentations made in Bio-IT technical sessions, addressing various aspects of resource management in the complex IT environment faced by bio/pharma organizations.
Ian Lumb, of Bright Computing presents “Enabling the Life Sciences: Cloud Computing for Smart People”, describing a cluster management solution that covers both local and cloud infrastructure.
tranSMART is an open source framework for managing translational research data, Dan Housman, of Recombinant By Deloitte, gives the history and status of this framework and the associated open source community in “tranSMART: A Year of Tnnovation and Growth of an Open Sounrce Community”.
As bio/pharma organizations manage and utilize an increasing number of applications, identity management can become a challenge. In “Identity Management for the Modern World: Enabling Every Company to be a Technology Company”, Phil Heyneker, of Okta, frames the issue and poses a solution.
