Recent Recognition of IEEE Members in Life Sciences

We want to extend our congratulations to IEEE members who have recently been recognized for their achievements in the Life Sciences!

First on our list is Mathukumalli Vidyasagar, Cecil H. & Ida Green Chair, The University of Texas at Dallas, who has just been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society! Truly an honor of distinction from the venerable Royal Society. See the citation page. (Vidyasagar is Co-Chair of the IEEE Life Sciences Project Team and is a contributor to our Newsletter.)

Semahat Damir, NSF Biomedical Engineering Program Director and an active EMB Society member, has been selected as President of the Instanbul Kültür University, in Istanbul, Turkey.

Yong Lian, Provost’s Chair Professor, National University of Singapore, has received the Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award from the Institution of Engineers Singapore. See the citation page. (Lian is a member of the Life Sciences Initiative Team.)

Savio L-Y. Woo, Distinguished University Professor, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA, USA, has received the 2012 IEEE Medal for Innovations in Healthcare Technology. He is cited “For pivotal contributions to biomechanics and its application to orthopedic surgery and sports medicine.”
