IEEE Life Sciences Hosts The Grand Challenges Conference, “Biorobotics and Bionics: New Frontiers of Biomedical Engineering”

The IEEE Life Sciences Technical Community is hosting the IEEE Life Sciences Grand Challenges 3rd annual international Conference: “Biorobotics and Bionics: New Frontiers of Biomedical Engineering” on January 25-26 at Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Featuring world-renowned speakers, the conference will highlight the latest research in the field of biorobotics and bionics, and will provide a public forum for discussions and debates of grand challenges at the interface of engineering, life sciences, and healthcare. The conference is being held on January 25-26 at Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The conference is segmented into four major sessions with plenary lectures presented by prominent international scientists. The sessions are: Frontiers of Robotics Surgery; Frontiers of Neurocontrol, Movement Analysis, and Rehabilitation; Frontiers of Bionics; and Frontiers of Soft and of Biomimetic Robots. A poster session will be held on the second day of the conference featuring selected abstracts related to biorobotics and bionics research, development, and education.

“I’m so pleased we are hosting the third Grand Challenges Conference on biorobotics and bionics in Abu Dhabi this year,” remarked conference chair, Paolo Dario, Professor and Director of the BioRobotics Institute at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Italy and at Khalifa University, in the UAE. “It’s significant because we’ve seen the emergence of this region of the world as a powerhouse in contributing both talent and investment to the growing field of biorobotics and bionics. The people of this region will prove in the near future to be key in solving some of the life science grand challenges that we will address at this conference.”

The conference program may be viewed here, and more information may be found on the conference website. The conference is organized with the support of Khalifa University, the Abu Dhabi Education Council, the UAE Chapter of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, and the IEEE UAE Section.

About IEEE Life Sciences

The IEEE Life Sciences Technical Community (LSTC) is a relatively new organization, which began in 2014. LSTC’s mission is to serve as a premiere global resource for life sciences technologies, information, and activities. LSTC also seeks to create a virtual community for stakeholders that have interests in technology and its application in life sciences, including technology companies, hospitals, pharmaceutical company researchers, and university researchers. The LSTC is supported by the following IEEE Societies, which each has technical interests that intersect the fields of engineering and life sciences.

  • Engineering in Medicine and Biology
  • Circuits and Systems
  • Communications
  • Computer
  • Consumer Electronics
  • Control Systems
  • Signal Processing
